At the University of Hildesheim, the Institute for Information Science and Language Technology, Faculty of Language and Information Sciences, has a vacancy for a position as

Research assistant (m/f/d)
(TV-L E 13, 80%)

for 18 months.

The position is part of the project “ViFaPi: Image Analysis in historic prints and herbaria” and is a cooperation with the TU Braunschweig and the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel. The ViFaPi project is funded by the MWK Niedersachsen within the program PRO*Niedersachsen – Kulturelles Erbe - Sammlungen und Objekte.

Your tasks:

Collaboration in the above-mentioned project, which is carried out on at the university with the following focal points

  • Development and adaptation of machine learning methods for image recognition in historic publications
  • Evaluation of datasets
  • Cooperation with domain experts on historic publications
  • Academic writing of publications

Your profile:

  • University degree in Information Science or in a degree program with comparable content
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Knowledge in these areas:
    - Image analysis
    - machine learning (especially Deep Learning)
    - Use of Python Tools and Multimodal models or language models

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree
